Harriet Fishman, a retired School Library Media Specialist, is a poet and artist, who has been involved in interfaith activities since she embraced the Baha’i Faith in 1968 and serves as the Chairperson of the Town of Islip Spiritual Assembly. She is an active member of the Multi-Faith Forum and helped coordinate interfaith programs in the Smithtown School District as well as participating in other such events. Mrs. Fishman is a member of the Multicultural Solidarity group and strives to find the common threads of understanding which brings hearts together and welcomes diversity in seeking unity. Harriet and her husband, Akbar, host a monthly gathering at their home, Conversations of Consequence, which focuses on elevated discussions to help bring people of all backgrounds together. They also are facilitators of the Ruhi Institute which is a global educational system founded to promote spiritual insights and understanding that is then expressed in action for the betterment of humanity.
